My Story

A Life of Balance

My name is Emma and I have practised and taught Pilates for over 10 years.

I first got into teaching exercise when I was on maternity leave and wanted to set up my own business. Having trained as an aerobics & gym instructor I have to admit I kind of fell into taking a Pilates training course - I'd never really heard much about it and had certainly not been to a class. I fell in love with the method and the effects it can have on your body and I haven't looked back since.

I trained to Mat Level 3 at Morley college in London, completing the Pilates qualification that is recognised as industry leading and required by professional bodies such as Cimpsa and Reps to enable you to teach and be insured in the UK. I then completed further training with Stott Pilates on using mini props. In my classes I use the mini ball, resistance bands, weights, magic circles or rollers to add intensity or modification to the exercises. This can help to improve technique and enable clients to work to an appropriate level in class. More recently I have qualified to teach Pre & Postnatal Pilates and Reformer Pilates. I am an Associate Member of JPilates and continue to train with them at workshops, conventions and retreats. This has helped to deepen my understanding of the fundamentals of Pilates and to share that learning with clients.

"Emma’s classes are absolutely fantastic - without them I think I would be in pieces. She does a great mix of core strength work and stretching and always provides adjustments for those with injuries or at different levels. I would have a class every day if I could! I was so pleased she continued with her classes online during lockdown and they work really well."

Since 'Lockdown' I have had more time for my personal practice which is so valuable and has reminded me of my love of Pilates and all the benefits. The connection between your mental health and your mat is real. Research has shown time and time again that exercise can play a significant role in helping manage stress, anxiety, mood and increase resilience via numerous, complex processes. This is of such importance in the current climate and I hope that you will join me on the mat to gain those benefits.

My classes are mixed ability but as I am teaching solely on zoom at present I would need to speak to new clients before you sign up to classes to ensure that they are right for you.

I teach a mix of classical and contemporary Pilates. The original method, introduced and named after it's creator Joseph Pilates, can be challenging. I tend to modify the exercise, add small equipment & re-order or omit some exercises to suit my clients abilities. I strive to stay true to the principles of Pilates and continue to personally practice the original 34 exercises.
